The Hotel Balchik, Balchik – July 2007
Dogrose

Hotel BalchikThe Hotel Balchik is dated, shabby and very tired. Although slightly cheaper than some of the smaller hotels near the port, around 50 leva per double room, we did not think it was particularly good value for money.

The hotel took some finding as although it is next to the town hall it’s not actually visible from the road. You have to drive into the town hall car park and around the corner of the building. The car park cost 1 lev per night. There is another route to bring you to the front of the hotel but it is quite complicated to get there and doesn’t give you access to the car park.

Neither of the rooms we were shown had fans or aircon, which is probably acceptable in the cooler weather but certainly not in the height of summer as the room we stayed in was roasting hot and airless.

The first room we looked at was very drab and gloomy, the second was very sunny and bright. We rented the second room but in retrospect the first might have been a little cooler, if not more depressing.
On the plus side though the room did contain a small tv (but no remote and limited channels) and it did have a small balcony with a lovely view.

Overall we found the hotel quite depressing.
