About
Welcome to the new Dusty Traveller site.
My name is Rosie, my partner is Kelvin and the latest addition to our family is Fagin, a beautiful German Shepherd stray of about a year old. We’ve called her Fagin because she is a little thief.
This site has been around for a few years now and was started as a travel diary whilst Kelvin, and I were searching for a new home.
We visited Bulgaria, but both felt it was little too rough around the edges for a couple of old wrinklies. We spent 3 months travelling though Belize, Mexico and the USA, but both felt it was a little too far from Blighty and the grandkids.
We had just returned from the latter trip to a miserable summer in the UK , when a friend, living in Portugal, offered us a couple of weeks accommodation on Armona island, courtesy of his girlfriends granny.
Portugal was never on my list of places to move to. We had spent a holiday in Praia de Rocha once and I’d got scammed by a time share tout on my last day. I was so angry that I swore I would never return – although I did manage to get my own back in Bali but that’s another story.
Still, faced with a couple of wet and windy weeks in the UK and not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth we decide to take up the offer and had a wonderful time. What a difference once you are away from the tourist resorts. Not that Armona Island isn’t a holiday place but it’s a Portuguese holiday place and for most of the time we were there it was deserted.
So that was how it all began . . . . sometimes you find what you are looking for when you least expect it!
